Festival Island
2nd June 2025

Forget the idea of the Isle of Wight as a sleepy backwater - this island is buzzing with energy, colour, and celebration all year round. Whether you're a music lover, foodie, thrill-seeker, or art enthusiast, there’s something here for you. From world-famous music weekends to quirky food fairs and adrenaline-pumping sporting events, the Isle of Wight is packed with unforgettable moments. Here are some of our favourites…

Music That Moves You

The Isle of Wight has been at the heart of the UK’s music scene since the legendary festivals of the '60s — and it hasn’t looked back. Still the crown jewel of the Island’s event calendar, the Isle of Wight Festival returns each June with its iconic blend of global superstars, rising talent, and a party vibe that kicks in as soon as you board the ferry. Drawing over 55,000 fans every year, it’s more than a festival, it’s an experience.

The festival spirit continues all summer long. Jack Up Events hosts the nostalgic Ticket to Ryde on both May and August Bank Holidays, and the Jack Up Summer Party serves up singalong anthems with top-tier tribute acts. Think: Take That, Lionel Richie, and Bryan Adams vibes! Don’t miss The Wight Proms in August, a blend of classical, country, show tunes and opera in the gorgeous gardens of Northwood House. For early birds, Wight Proms Wednesdays keep the music going from February with twice-monthly midweek concerts.

Walking Wonders

With over 500 miles of trails and jaw-dropping coastal views, walking festivals are a natural fit for the Island.

Isle of Wight Ultra Challenge takes place May 2025. Join over 2,000 challengers for a spectacular walk, jog, or run along the dramatic southern cliffs, past the iconic Needles, and up to historic Cowes. Full, half, or shorter options available - this is endurance with epic scenery!

The Isle of Wight Walking Festival (in both spring and autumn) is inclusive, friendly, and full of variety - from short strolls to full-day hikes, all led by passionate local guides. You’ll see hidden corners of the Island and learn stories along the way.

Walk the Wight is one of the biggest charity walks in the UK, this beloved May event invites thousands to cross the Island from coast to coast — raising funds for Mountbatten, the Island’s hospice, whom we have supported for many years.

Art, Theatre & Local Talent

Creative energy runs deep on the Isle of Wight, and its arts festivals are bold, brilliant, and wonderfully unique.

Ventnor Fringe offers ten days of immersive art, music, comedy, cabaret, circus, and street performances in the Island’s bohemian south coast town. With both ticketed and free events, you can build your own festival vibe with shows, pop-up venues, and late-night hangouts. Now a must-visit summer staple, Cowes Fringe is a growing event brings eclectic music, theatre, and performance art to venues across Cowes - including the family-favourite Hootenanny.

What started as a small village fête, Chale Show is now one of the biggest summer gatherings. Expect crafts, vintage displays, thrilling shows, and local flavour in every sense. Celebrate the rural heritage of the Island at The `Isle of Wight County Show. At this family-friendly fair you can meet local producers, watch live demos, and discover everything from artisan food to traditional crafts, all in the footsteps of Queen Victoria, a former patron.

Sports Events with Soul

Whether you're racing, sailing or cheering from the sidelines, the Island has sporting thrills in spades.

The Festival of Running in the West Wight is set against stunning sea and countryside views. This multi-day event caters to all runners. Try a 5k, challenge yourself with the Needles Half Marathon, or tackle something in between.

One of the largest yacht races in the world, Round the Island Race is a high-octane one-day event that sees over 1,400 boats circumnavigate the Island. Whether you’re on board or watching from the shore, it’s a spectacle of colour, competition and coastal pride. The oldest and most prestigious sailing regatta on the planet, Cowes Week combines top-tier sailing with a buzzing festival atmosphere. Think street food, fireworks, and music into the night.

Foodie Heaven Awaits

From garlic ice cream to gourmet burgers, the Island knows how to celebrate good food and drink.

The world-famous Garlic Farm goes all out each August with live music, kids’ activities, and, of course, garlic in every possible form. It’s funky, fragrant and full of fun.

The Great Wight Bite launched in 2023 and is already a crowd-puller. Based at Northwood House, this food festival features pop-up restaurants, chef demos, and delicious local produce. It’s foodie paradise, with Island vibes.

All aboard for flavour! The Isle of Wight Steam Railway hosts popular tasting weekends, including the Cider & Cheese Festival and the Real Ale Festival, both set against the backdrop of charming vintage trains.
